CANRA Qualifying Examinations (CANRA-QE)
The Canadian Alliance of Naturopathic Regulatory Authorities (CANRA) administers the CANRA Qualifying Examinations (CANRA-QE) - the national entry-to-practice standard for Naturopathic Doctors in Canada. The CANRA-QE assesses the competencies a Naturopathic Doctor must demonstrate to practice safely and effectively at the point of entry to the profession. It replaces a patchwork of separate examinations with one consistent, defensible national standard that supports public protection and labour mobility from coast to coast.
About the CANRA-QE
The CANRA-QE is a suite of examinations made up of complementary components that, together, assess the full National Competency Profile for entry-level Naturopathic practice in Canada.
The competency profile consists of 22 key competencies with 62 enabling competencies grouped thematically under 5 domains:
-
Professionalism
-
Communication
-
Assessment and Diagnosis
-
Therapeutic Management
-
Records Management
The CANRA-QE includes:
An Objective Structured Clinical Examination - An Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a hands-on, station-based format in which candidates move through a series of timed stations that assess clinical skills in a simulated clinical environment including patient encounters. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate skills such as physical examination, differential diagnosis, manipulation, acupuncture, and emergency preparedness, assessing aspects of the professionalism, communication, assessment and diagnosis and therapeutic management domains.
A Written Examination - a two-part written multiple-choice (MCQ) examination including both standard MCQ and case-based items assessing all aspects of all the domains in the competency profile.
