The CANRA Qualifying Examinations (CANRA-QE) are the national entry-to-practice examinations for Naturopathic Doctors in Canada. There are two components:The Entry-to-Practice OSCE, a practical examination delivered in person.The Entry-to-Practice MCQ, a two-part written examination delivered online.

The first administration of the Entry-to-Practice OSCE is October 18, 2026, in Vancouver, British Columbia.The Entry-to-Practice MCQ is scheduled to be available in 2027.

Is October 18, 2026 both the MCQ and the OSCE?

Accepted Answer

No. October 18, 2026 is the OSCE only. The MCQ is not available in 2026.

Are the CANRA-QE used in every Province and Territory?

CANRA's member regulators have agreed to accept only the CANRA-QE for entry-to-practice registration. Each regulator determines when and how that applies within its own jurisdiction. Contact your regulator to confirm what applies to you.

What does the OSCE assess?

The OSCE is an objective structured clinical examination which assesses competencies drawn from the National Competency Profile, including physical examination, differential diagnosis, manipulation, acupuncture, and emergency management preparedness.  Full details are in the Candidate Handbook.

Is the ethics or jurisprudence examination part of the CANRA-QE?

No. Ethics and jurisprudence examinations are the responsibility of the regulator in the jurisdiction where you intend to practise. Contact your regulator for more information.
